تناول الباحثون في التاريخ جبل عامل وشخصياته الدينية والسياسية المختلفة بالدراسة والتحليل ,إلا انه لم تفرد دراسة محددة لشخصية (عاملية) مهمة كان لها أثرا واضحا في تاريخ لبنان عموما , وتاريخ جبل عامل على وجه خاص ,ألا وهي شخصية كامل خليل الأسعد ,لذا جاء عنوان البحث ( كامل خليل الأسعد ودوره السياسي في لبنان 1908-1924 ) . كونه الزعيم العاملي الأول طيلة الربع الأول من القرن المنصرم ,سيما وانه سليل أسرة عربية عريقة حكمت جنوبي لبنان ردحا طويلا من الزمن ,كما عاصر الدولة العثمانية والحكومة العربية في دمشق والانتداب الفرنسي على لبنان وساهم في أحداث تلك المرحلة .
