الملخص

       يتناول هذا البحث الوجود الفرنسي وأثرهِ في ظهور القومية الكمبودية (1920 - 1937). فقد كانت هناك إجراءات جادة من جانب الفرنسيين لتغيير الاوضاع العامة في المملكة الكمبودية نحو الافضل, لكن بسبب استمرار الفرنسيين بأساليبهم القمعية ضد الكمبوديين ولد ذلك المشاعر القومية ضدهم. ان اضطراب الاوضاع السياسية والاقتصادية خلال الاعوام (1927 - 1935) ساعد على ظهور الحزب الشيوعي الهندوسي خلال عام 1930 في الهند الصينية. ان تأسيس صحيفة ناغرافاتا وأثرها في المجتمع الكمبودي (1936-1937) لم يكن ضد الوجود الفرنسي في كمبوديا بل على العكس كانت الصحيفة والمنشورات الكمبودية الاخرى تروج على ان الكمبوديون (الخمير) ينظرون إلى الفرنسيين كحماة ضد جيرانهم, وان العدو الرئيس كان الفيتناميين, لكن عند تأسيس رابطة الشباب الكمبوديين اخذت تطالب بالحقوق الكمبودية من الاستعمار الفرنسي.
