تُعد شخصية عدنان خاشقي من الشخصيات المثيرة للجدل في عالم التسليح والسياسية ، في ظل غموض الدور الذي كان يؤديه في المجالين العسكري والسياسي، لاسيما وإن الكثير من أنشطته كانت بشكل سر إلا ما ندر منها ، إذ أدى اعماله تلك في نطاق المخابرات ، ونطاق شركات التسليح ، وغيرها من الأساليب التي لجأ اليها في جمع ثروته الطائلة . وتلك المعطيات دفعتنا للبحث في غموض شخصية عدنان خاشقي وبيان نشاطه في المجالين العسكري والسياسي تحت عنوان (عدنان خاشقجي حياته ونشاطه في المجالين العسكري والسياسي 1935- 1990).
قسمنا الدراسة الى ثلاثة مباحث : ركزنا في المبحث الأول على : ( ولادة عدنان خاشقجي ونشأته ودراسته حتى عام 1962) ، وخُصص المبحث الثاني لدراسة (بدايات نشاط عدنان خاشقي في المجالين العسكري والسياسي 1962- 1973) ، بينما تمحور المبحث الثالث حول ( تطور نشاط عدنان خاشقجي في مجالي التسليح العسكري والنشاط السياسي 1974- 1990 ).
اعتمدت الدراسة على مجموعة من المصادر أبرزها كتاب :

أغنى رجل في العالم " قصة عدنان خاشقجي" ، للمؤلف RONALD KESSLER (رونالد كيسلر) ، الذي رفد الدراسة بمعلومات مهمة عمت فائدتها المباحث الثلاثة من الدراسة ، فضلاً عن كتاب : إمبراطورية آل فايد ( الملف السري للفضائح من أحضان تجار السلاح .. إلى فراش الأميرات) للمؤلف : عبد الله كمال ، الذي أعطى للدراسة معلومات مهمة في المبحث الأول والثاني ، لاسيما ولادة ونشأة خاشقجي ، وبداياته في نشاط التسليح والتجارة .
