Abstract

The study aimed at the phenomenon of drug abuse in the community of Dhi Qar Governorate for a sample of the inmates of the correctional prison, to identify the reasons that lead to the spread of the problem of drug abuse, possession and trafficking through a questionnaire form of several questions for a sample of the male inmates arrested and sentenced in the correctional prison.
Addiction is no longer a problem suffered by some large and small countries or local countries, but rather it has become an international problem that the international and regional body joins forces to find radical solutions to eradicate it from its roots.
The researcher succeeded in obtaining the data on the subject of the study for a sample of prison inmates (200) convicted prison inmates. The researcher designed a questionnaire for a number of questions after setting a methodological framework for the study and defining the concepts and terminology of the study. It must be said that this problem after the entry of the US coalition forces into Iraq after 2003, clearly as a result of insecurity, the absence of border control, and mercenary traders smuggling and trading in narcotic substances, and this is a crime punishable by Iraqi law.
The researcher reached results and recommendations
1- Activating the drug control law that was in force in the past.
2- Comprehensive awareness of citizens and youth through the media about the dangers of drugs.
3- Entering into international agreements with neighboring countries to extradite drug traffickers.
4- Monitor drug offenders, especially financial ones, and prevent them from laundering money.
