Abstract

The directive strategy is considered one of the most important types of strategies that a text producer adopts in order to achieve their communicative, influential, and utilitarian objectives. This research attempts to reveal the linguistic means in the directive strategy in one of the pre-Islamic era’s anthologies in a dialogical form composed of a series of speeches, with the main focus being the discourse of Murthad Al-Khair. This dialogical form belongs to the most eloquent eras of the Arabic language, prompting the researcher to use it as a practical field for study. The study is organized into two sections: the first includes the concept of pragmatics and the importance of the pragmatic approach in studying texts, then defining the limit of strategy, and the directive strategy, followed by explaining the justifications for the directive strategy. The second section is dedicated to the applied study.
