تُعدّ ظاهرة الآخر هي ظاهرة متجذرة مع الوجود الإنساني, وعلاقة الإنسان بالآخر هي علاقة مع الوجود الذي يعيشه, ولا يمكن تصور الآخر إلا بتحقيق هوية الذات, إذ يتقدم الآخر بكونه موضوعاً لمعرفة الذات, وقد تَحدَّد الآخر بالقياس إلى نقطة مركزية هي الذات, وبعد أن أنتجت الذات هويتها الإسلامية, لأنَّ كل صورة من صور الآخر هي نتاج للوعي الذاتي مهما كان صغيراً بالانا مقابل الآخر.
شكَّل الآخر المقدس في عيّنة الدراسة بعداً للذات انماز بالتعظيم والإجلال, وغاية في المثالية والرفعة, وتستند تلك الصور على يقين وعقيدة راسخة, بلغةٍ مشحونة بالإيمان تنبض بالدلالات الفكرية والمعرفية, فشهدت النصوص انكشاف علاقة القوة بين الأنا و(الذات الإلهية) والإقرار والطاعة والشكر والحمد, فأنتجت الذات هويتها عبر صورة الآخر المقدس تسجل للمتلقي خلاصة توجهات الذات بعمق الإيمان والوعي والخبرة. كما وتبلور مُسمّى آخر مدنس اتخذت الذات منه موقفاً مخالفاً ومعادياً؛ إذ تم تنصيب الدين والقومية والقيم والأخلاق حدّاً فاصلاً في تحديد مسميات المدنس, سواء كان ذلك الآخر المدنس ذوات أم يكون بوصفه سلوكاً مثل الذنوب بتعدد مسمياتها وتنوع أشكالها.
