يدرس البحث تاثير تأميم قناة السويس عام 1956 على العلاقات الامريكية البنمية , اذ شهدت العلاقات بين البلدين توترات على المستوى الشعبي والدبلوماسي , وصل الامر بالحكومة البنمية برفع صوتها عاليا , ومطالبتها بتاميم قناة بنما , اسوة بما قام به المصريين من تاميم لقناة السويس , ومما زاد الامر تعقيدا الدعوة الى انعقاد مؤتمر لندن , الذي عقد في أعقاب تأميم جمال عبد الناصر لقناة السويس , وعدم دعوة الحكومة البنمية , شكّل صدمة للأخيرة , بالرغم من انها تمتلك قناة عالمية يستخدها اكثر الدول للاغراض التجارية
