ستتناول هذه الدراسة مسألة الدول الضغيرة التي أصبحت لها الأهمية البالغة دولياً خصوصاً في النصف الثاني من القرن المنصرم ولغاية وقتنا هذا من أنعكاسات كثيرة من الأحداث السياسية التي أنعكست بدوها على تقسيم دول وولدت دول صغيرة والتي تعرف بالدول المايكروستيت "Microstates" تحت وصاية القانون الدولي ومنظماته وبرأسة منظمة الأمم المتحدة.
تتمثل الدول المايكروستيت "Microstates" للقارة الأفريقية السمراء بالموقع القاري المغلق وكذالك الساحلي وأخيراً الجزرية، مما يعطي الدول الصغيرة التفــرد بمتخلف المميزات المساحية وغيرها من الأمكانيات، والدول الصغير في العالم تختلف أمكانياتها من حيث الحجم والمساحة، فتطرق الكثير من الباحثين المختصين الجغرافين حول المساحات للدول الصغيرة في العالم، فصنفوها الى تصانيف عـدة ومنها تصنيف للباحث " باونـدز - Paunds " السباعي، فقــــد خصخصة الدول الصغيرة فقط الى ثلاث مراتب ( الصغيرة - الصغيرة جدا – المايكروستيت/دول الأقزام ).
