شهدت الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية في عهد الرئيس جيمس مونرو استقراراً واضحاً في سياستها الداخلية ، فقد كان له دور كبير في تقوية الاتحاد والتقريب بين الاطراف السياسية وتعميق الوحدة الوطنية ، حتى سمي عهده بــ ( عهد المشاعر الطيبة ) ، ومنحه الشعب الأمريكي ثقته مرتان، وانتخبه لمنصب الرئيس للمدة من ( 1817 - 1825) . إذ توسع الاتحاد بضم خمس ولايات جديدة ، فضلاً عن تجاوز الأزمة الاقتصادية التي شهدتها البلاد عام 1819، وتحقيق الازدهار الاقتصادي وحماية الصناعة الوطنية وتقوية الحكومة المركزية .
