Abstract

The demographic wastage among the young age group is considered one of the population problems affecting societies, especially developing countries, due to its connection with demographic, social, and economic variables. These variables reflect the diverse conditions experienced by societies. The importance of this study lies in its aim to identify the economic variables influencing the level of demographic wastage among children and adolescents in the Suq al-Shuyukh district.

The research seeks to examine the economic variables leading to demographic wastage among the young age group, which were analyzed at the level of administrative units in the Suq al-Shuyukh district for the year 2025.

The study reached several conclusions, including the following:
Regarding the father’s occupational characteristics, it was noted that the percentage of fathers employed in government or formal jobs was high, reaching 53.3%, with the district center recording the highest rate at 57.9%. Meanwhile, the percentage of mothers who were housewives reached 86.4%, with the ‘Akikah subdistrict recording the highest proportion at 92%.

As for income, the average monthly income of the sample households amounted to 759,851 Iraqi dinars.
