يتجاوز شعر مهدي الحلي في رثاء الإمام الحسين (ع) البعد العاطفي ليتخذ منزعاً عقلياً، محوّلاً المأساة إلى فكر يتأمل الصراع الكوني بين قيم الحق والباطل والحرية والاستبداد. لا يقتصر الرثاء على البكاء، بل يقوم على محاججة عقلية تُقنع المتلقي بسمو القضية الحسينية بوصفها رمزا للإنسان الصادق في رفض كل أشكال الظلم.
وقد زخر التراث الأدبي العربي بالكثير ممن دعوا إلى إعمال العقل كالجاحظ والجرجاني والمعري في أعمالهم الأدبية، وهذا ما تجلى في شعر الحلي إذ يتحوّل الطباق إلى بنية حجاجية تُبرز صراع القيم وتُكسب النص بعداً إنسانياً عاماً. تسلط الدراسة الضوء على قدرة أداة بلاغية تقليدية على تجسيد رؤية فكرية عميقة، مؤكدة أن الشعر في أرقى لحظاته هو فعل تفكير لا مجرد انفعال وجداني.
ويُعد الطباق القائم في بنية على فكرة التضاد أداة بلاغية مهمة يتجسد المنزع العقلي في ألفاظها ، فهو ليس زخرفة لفظية، بل وسيلة فكرية تعكس الصراع الوجودي في صورة لغوية مكثفة (مثل: الموت/الحياة، العز/الذل). يحوّل الطباق القصيدة إلى برهان شعري، يدفع العقل للتأمل في المفارقات والبحث عن العلاقة بين الأضداد، مما ينشط الجانب التأويلي ويجعل القارئ مشاركاً في إنتاج المعنى
