Between 1928 and 1938, German military advisors played a crucial role in modernizing the Chinese army and organizing its strategies to counter Japanese threats. They contributed to enhancing China's military and industrial capabilities, making them a significant part of the transformation in Sino-German relations. Thanks to their assistance, the Nationalist government achieved important military and strategic successes. The German mission was the longest and most influential among foreign missions in China's history, supporting Chiang Kai-shek's rule and contributing to various political, military, and economic fields.
The research is divided into five sections. The first section focuses on the origins and development of Sino-German relations up to 1927. The second section examines General Max Bauer's role in establishing the German advisory mission in China (1928-1929). The third section discusses the German military advisory mission in China during the period of instability from 1929 to 1934. The fourth section highlights the role of German military advisors in strengthening Sino-German cooperation (1934-1938). The fifth section explains the withdrawal or recall of German military advisors from China (1937-1938).
