تعد اللغة العربية واحدة من لهجات شبة الجزيرة العربية ، إذْ نبّهَ الخَليل بِنْ احمَد الفراهيدي(175هـ) إلى العلاقة بين العربية واحدى اخواتها قائلاً:)) كنعان بن سام بن نوح إليه ينسب الكنعانيون وكانوا يتكلمون بلغة تَقارب العربيَة ((([i])، وقَرّب العربيَة من لَهجات شُبه الجَزيرة العَربية الاخرى جعلنا نجزم بانها واحدة منها فهي تعود الى مكون واحد له نظامه الصوتي الذي عرف به فغالبا ما تتشابه أصوات هذه اللهجات باستثناء بعض الأصوات التي أبدلت أو اختفت لسبب ما([ii])..
وقد اطُلقت تسميةُ (الاقوام السامية)(Semites) على سكان شبه الجزيرة العربية، وكان أول من ارتأى هذه التسمية هو المستشرق (شلوتزر) ((Schloezer(1781)نسبة إلى أبناء (سام بن نوح)([iii])، وقد ذكر أحد الباحثين بأن الاسم الصحيح لأولئك الاقوام من الناحية التاريخية والجغرافية هو (أقوام الجزيرة)أو (الجزريين)أو(الأقوام العربية القديمة)([iv])، أو (الجزيرية) نسبة إلى لهجات شبه الجزيرة العربية([v]). وللدكتورة ولاء صادق محسن رأي آخر إذْ سمتها (لهجات) وعللت بانها لم تقل لغات على افتراض ان هذه اللهجات لغة جامعة موحدة للهجات الجزيرة العربية وهو ما اطلق عليه اللغة الام([vi]). وفي بحثنا هذا نتبنى رأي الاستاذة وما أشارت اليه.
