Abstract

"This study attempted to use the methodology of comparative cultural semiotics to examine the influence of texts from (Nahj al-Balagha) on the book (Masnavi Ma’navi) by the Persian poet Jalal al-Din Rumi. It goes beyond the traditional approach of revealing the influencer to explain how it branches out in the Masnavi. The poet aimed to give the semantic systems of Nahj al-Balagha texts extensive extensions, benefiting from the semiotic processes they carry.

The research illuminated the terms ‘influence’ and ‘cultural semiotics’ at the outset, then quickly moved to examine Rumi’s Masnavi and the space of mysticism. It carefully studied various poetic models, focusing on the semiotics of boundaries, body, and soul."
