Naval Operations in the Pacific 1941–1942: An Analytical Vision in Al-Zaman Iraqi Newspaper

Abstract

The research aims to highlight the interest of Al-Zaman Iraqi newspaper in reporting the details of naval operations in the Pacific during 1941–1942, particularly since the Pacific region witnessed a bitter naval conflict between Japan and the United States during World War II. This conflict resulted from Japan’s bombing of the U.S. fleet at Pearl Harbor, an event that was sufficient to end the United States’ isolationist policy and drive it into war.

The Pacific region, during World War II, experienced a bitter naval struggle between Japan and the United States, a struggle that stemmed from Japan’s attack on the U.S. fleet at Pearl Harbor. This attack was decisive in ending the United States’ isolation and pushing it into war. The subject attracted the attention of Al-Zaman Iraqi newspaper, which devoted great importance to it, especially during the period 1941–1942.

The study is composed of three main axes:

1. The objectives that motivated Japan and the United States to struggle over the Pacific.

2. The Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, analyzing its causes and consequences.

3. The monitoring of naval operations in the Pacific, tracing their development and impact on the course of the war.
